Pilates for me was about finding a place where I could find a place to help myself.
I am not a dancer nor, am I athletic. I did run track in high school, and I do walk
on the treadmill. But a car accident I had a several years ago made me change how I
took care of myself. During my healing process, my doctor prescribed the traditional
physical therapy. The therapy was very good, at the end of my sessions
my Physical Therapist said I needed to be careful while walking on sand.
I knew I had to find a way to further my healing process. I needed to find an exercise
that did not require jumping up and down, an exercise that would not hurt. Something that
would help me to regain the strength back, especially to my left side of my body that sustained nerve damage from the car accident.
I had always known of Pilates, mostly from television. I heard interviews with many entertainers raving about how Pilates improved their bodies. I tried to practice from watching Pilate videos. But I could not absorb the techniques with total understanding.
I found out that my friend
Patti Eppolito Kreiner from Pilates with Pizazz has been involved with Pilates for years. I started training in Pilates with Patti. Patti taught me everything I needed to know. It was an excellent experience.
It's almost as if my muscles have been reborn. My left side is so much stronger.
I am so proud of my little bulge of muscle that I have in my left pec!!! The breathing
techniques has improved my asthma. I was having fun and my body took notice.
I received my Mat Certification from the PhysicalMind Institute in New York City with
Liza Rodriguez of Body Mechanics.
When my clients first come to my class, they start out believing that Pilates is this
unobtainable feat. They are always questioning their ability to achieve their goal. Within a few weeks they are so proud of their accomplishments. I feel that I am helping people to understand the mind-body connection by improving their consciousness, awareness and stability.
I've seen what Pilates has done for my total body awareness. My body has changed and it
is continuing to change.
Pilates, I think you'll love it.
